Research interests

Our research focuses on understanding different aspects of transcriptional regulation using genome-wide approaches.

Research activity

My group is interested in applying diverse genomics techniques based on high-throughput next-generation sequencing, such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and Hi-C to investigate how specific transcriptional programmes are regulated under different environmental and developmental conditions. In particular, we are interested in the following two aspects:

The role of 3D chromatin organisation in regulating gene expression.
In order to investigate this, over the past years we and others have developed several computational and experimental techniques to measure the impact of chromatin positioning in gene activation or repression. By using a combination of genetic and genomic tools, we aim to decipher some of the mechanisms that mediate chromatin positioning in the nucleus and promote transcriptional regulation.

Transcriptional regulation of mono-allelic gene expression.
Mono-allelic gene expression is a key feature found in the basis of many interesting biological processes such as reprogramming and pluripotency, dose control through mammalian X chromosome inactivation or immune response evasion. We combine computational and experimental ‘omics’ techniques to investigate several aspects of how mono-allelic gene expression is controlled.
