We are interested in the cell biology of signalling processes (BMP, Hh, Jak/Stat), specifically with respect to their role in the testis stem cell niche. We try to visualize communication events using activation state specific reporters for receptors and other signal transduction components, and analyze signalling complexes using microscopy based biophysical methods.
In addition we want to understand the information content of niche signalling, and have found that niche signals appear to “micromanage” stem cell behaviour rather than combinatorily defining a stem cell state.
We are therefore studying niche control of stem cell proliferation, metabolism, and competition.
