Casey Bergman, Uwe Ohler and myself have been awarded an HFSP grant to continue working on the developmental hourglass. This is a renewal of the grant we received in 2008 and it is the first time in the history of HFSP when a grant was renewed. We acknowledge the contribution of Alex Kalinka, a post-doctoral fellow who has been and will be instrumental for the success of this project. He is clearly a JEDI in the making.
On a personal level, since I will turn 40 tomorrow, I am delighted that at least in the eyes of HFSP I continue to be a Young Investigator and thus my cherished JEDI status will be preserved for the next three years…
Carlos Ribeiro on the other hand is in trouble as he was awarded the Program grant for the big boys.
Congratulation Carlos!
Did we miss anyone?

Thanks Pavel and congratulations to Casey, Uwe and you! These are indeed great news! I was however not aware of the membership problems this would entrail. Does this mean I have to apply for honorary membership?
Our grant application would not have been successfull without teaming up with Michael Dickinson and Aldo Faisal. So my thanks go to them too. I am sure this work will be performed in a true JEDI spirit.

During the last Swiss Drosophila meeting, (where, by the way, Casey gave a great keynote talk making all Jedis proud!), Casey, Bart, Hugo and myself recently agreed, that once a Jedi always a Jedi.
To solve the nomenclature, I propose the J to mean “Just turned 40″ for some…
Congrats on the grants to all!
